Sept 30 Liberty State Park NJ and Empire State Building

This pic shows the NYC skyline plus the Hudson River Fire Boat which appears as a fountain in the background.  Also in this pic is the Liberty Harbor Ferry which we rode from Jersey City, NJ to NYC,  NY during our 3-day stay in the area.

 We continued our bike ride to the Empire State building.  This pigeon was sitting on the 86th floor observation deck and was just begging to have his pic taken.

 The three islands are The Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and The Liberty Island Train Station.

This pic is of a sand sculpture depicting the twin towers and the NYC Firefighters.  There was a major event going on downtown with music and food to celebrate the service of the firefighters.

Sept 29 NYC What a great place to bike

Tweety at his New Jersey City home, notice this is not your usual campground. It was very nice however and convenient. Becky is running out of the picture.

 We had a two minute bike ride to catch the ferry to the Wall Street area on the West side..

 As we pulled out of the harbor toward downtown NYC.

You can see one of the new towers being built and our bikes on the front of the ferry.

 The bike trail along the West side of the Hudson river was very nice

 Becky is actually riding here, I just pointed the camera behind me and shot.

 We rode our bikes up the bike trail to 67th Street and cut over to Central Park. You must ride on the street and we were a little concerned, but it was no problem at all. We felt safer riding there than many streets at home.

 You have to have a hot dog sold by the local vendors in Central Park. There were many vendors of all kinds of thing. One would tell you a joke that guaranteed that you would laugh for a dollar. Many musicians playing just far enough apart that their music didn't conflict with each other but
drifted along with you long enough to enjoy.

We came out of Central park and I could see Times Square about five blocks away and we had to ride the streets to get there. I am going to try to put a movie on the blog to show what it looked like, but we did see Cookie Monster, Elmo and Mickey.

I put this in for Amy, she likes to buy from this store.

 Next we rode our bikes about three blocks to see Rockefeller Plaza.

 We tried to see the 911 Memorial, but there was just too many people so we rode down Trinity Street and saw the Trinity Street Church.

We then rode our bikes back to the Hudson River and the next three pictures show the boats and the last one shows the Statute of Liberty from Battery Park.

After a good day riding our bikes we took the ferry back to Liberty Landing.

Sept 28 New York New York, Our kind of town, well maybe

 We made it from Newport, Rhode Island to New York City without much trouble, except for maybe 4 inches of rain. Every underpass was closed and the roads were flooded. Also, thank God for GPS, it got us to the Liberty Harbor Rv Campground. It is next to Liberty park and convenient, but not the kind of campground most would think of when thinking camping. Basically a parking lot with lots of campers. You might be able to pick out the new tower replacing the Twin towers in the pic above.

This is a picture from the campground, if you look closely in the middle you can see the Statue of Liberty and the torch is lit.

This may be hard to pick out, but I think it is the remnants of a Macy's  parade float for Santa Clause. Ok, I may be wrong, but it is a good story.

Almost a full moon over New York City, tomorrow it will be full. May be interesting.

Sept 26 Salem and Gloucester Mass.

On the Gloucester waterfront stands this monument to the over 5,368 men lost at sea.

The History Channel did a show on unusual buildings across the US and this was one of them, the Clam Box located in Ipswich has been in business since 1935.  They had natural clams that include the bellies. They were delicious, but I could not eat all of my meal. The building looks like an open box and is very nice. Becky had oysters and they were very good.

Sept 25 Almost to Freeport MA

Todays travels took us to lunch at Kennebec Tavern on the Kennebec River in Maine.

A exploration of the seaport towns landed us as this boat was being prepared to be hauled out.

We ended the day with a campfire at our campground in Phippsville, Maine.

We enjoyed the fire with cheese and crackers and a glass of wine.  We also roasted peeps for dessert. 

Sept 24 Bar Harbor, Cadillac Mountain and Nachos

This location is known as Sand Beach.  Water temp 55 degrees air temp 65.  Notice no people in the water.

Ate lunch at Jordan Pond house overlooking the lake. Had some awesome lobster stew and popovers. Never had either before and both were fantastic.

We hiked around Jordan Pond after lunch it was about 3 miles. The next picture is Becky resting on the hike.

We drove up Cadillac Mountain which is 1530 feet above see level. You can see a cruise ship that came into Bar Harbor this morning. The views were extremely nice, visibility was very good.

The campground host told us to have lunch at Jordan Pond and it was excellent plus she told us to have nachos at Patty's Irish Pub. We were a little hesitant because she told us they were made with  home made potato chips with cheddar cheese and jalapenos and ham. She went on and on about them so we thought we should try them. The were the best nachos ever.
